2. Global situation update

The number of weekly1 reported new cases globally has decreased by 45.6% in week 49 (05 Dec – 11 Dec) (n = 523 cases) compared to week 48 (28 Nov – 04 Dec) (n = 961 cases). The majority of cases reported in the past 4 weeks were notified from the Region of the Americas (93.4%) and the European Region (5.6%).

The 10 most affected countries globally are: United States of America (n = 29,513), Brazil (n = 10,264), Spain (n = 7,416), France (n = 4,110), Colombia (n = 3,908), The United Kingdom (n = 3,730), Germany (n = 3,675), Peru (n = 3,566), Mexico (n = 3,509), and Canada (n = 1,459). Together, these countries account for 85.9% of the cases reported globally.
