Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases Chapter 4 https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/safety.html “Balancing Immunization Recommendations with Risk of Disease Public health recommendations for immunization programs and practices represent a dynamic balance of risks and benefits. Vaccine safety monitoring is necessary to accurately weigh this balance and adjust immunization policy. For example, monitoring of smallpox and oral polio vaccines being…
I don’t understand why many people are still upset about Donald Trump’s election victory. The movement to keep all things Trump stirred up is unprecedented. The only conclusion I can draw is that many Americans have gotten lost in the jungle of identity politics that was created by and for the Hillary campaign, and are…
FDA released its compilation of 670 SERIOUS adverse event reports filed with the VAERS system for anthrax vaccine.. This includes 44 deaths that were reported as suspected vaccine-related adverse events. You can review the entire list. Reports that FDA has designated serious comprise 12.5% of the total anthrax vaccine VAERS reports filed. The list is…
Sasha Latypova did the first thirty minutes and I did the second thirty minutes. I unpack the new booster authorization and approval of the rollout. Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech versions of the new boosters contain the old vaccine and a new vaccine that contains mRNA coding for a BA.5 omicron spike. Neither vaccine has had any…
The NY Times’ Scott Shane and Nicholas Wade are drilling down on the essentials, elaborating on who had access to the particular anthrax found in Ivins’ lab and, purportedly, the letters: But at least 10 scientists had regular access to the laboratory and its anthrax stock — and possibly quite a few more, counting visitors…

I’ve been thinking about how the FBI should have approached the case.
It’s pretty simple: look for spores. The perp unavoidably left a trail of spores: a ton of spores where the anthrax was made (and/or where the envelopes were filled), likely spores in the perp’s car, etc. We know that the letters were leaking spores like crazy, despite being sealed with tape.
There are a limited number of likely places where the anthrax could have been made, a limited number of people who could have done it. The FBI could have checked every likely place (including USAMRIID of course) and every likely person’s car for spores and cracked the case within a matter of days.
As they say in the comic books, “that would have been too easy”.
The only thing the FBI still has right now is that Bruce Ivins was in mental health treatment and the public’s ignorance about that.
Bruce Ivins showed good insight into his situation and did exactly what you’re supposed to do when you realize that your thinking is off. He sought treatment and he reached out to friends.
He’s not the type of person that was so unaware of his challenges that he could just act out all over other people. The FBI can’t have it both ways, although they do try.
FBI had, then tossed anthrax type used in attacks
