Military: Repeat of anthrax attacks harder today/AP
From the Annapolis Capital, Maryland “Lennox said military safety reviews in recent months endorsed many of the security changes already made, from improved cameras and lights to satellite surveillance. But other changes were deemed not workable or too expensive, including limits on scientists’ hours or a system that would prohibit workers from being alone with…
2 weeks after the Nordstream pipeline sabotage, 2 undersea warfare experts get awards. Bad timing?
They work for a “nonprofit” govt contractor associated with JHU and one of Ms. Blodgett’s specialties is undersea mine warfare. No, I don’t think they had anything to do with Nordstream. But isn’t it funny how anything can be a nonprofit these days? BTW, this “nonprofit” made our esteemed Director of National Intelligence a Senior…
My live blog of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices meeting June 23 re Covid vaccines, safety, and booster doses
merylnass:The committee is welcomed by Amanda Cohn, MD, who is not only the ACIP Executive Secretary but also a member of the FDA’s vaccine advisory committee, VRBPAC–a considerable conflict of interest, which helps to asssure both federal agencies push the same policies smoothly, together. Drs. Walensky and Amanda Cohn thanked Anne Schuchat for her service….
Riffing on the Schrodinger’s Bat problem
COVID vaccine mandates are necessary because the protected need to be protected from the unprotected by forcing the unprotected to use the protection that didn’t protect the protected. Anthrax Vaccine and EMS: Beware of Waytes Bearing Gifts
Tom Waytes, vice president of Emergent BioSolutions, the manufacturer of anthrax vaccine, spoke at a meeting of Emergency Services Personnel at which he suggested that expiring doses of vaccine should be given to Emergency Services personnel for *free* by DHHS: “But with unused doses of already purchased anthrax vaccine sitting in the Strategic National Stockpile…

Meryl, do you have any sense of what the percentage is (% visits for ILI) that the health departments declare is flu season? Some of us are tired of the charade of wearing masks at work.
The links in the sidebar don't work (e.g. to your paper on anthrax in Zimbabwe)
According to CDC's FluView, the %ili last week was under 3%–and flu was only widespread in NJ, VT and NV.
But according to state epidemiologist opinions (characterized by the final graphic on the page) the flu remained widespread almost everywhere last week.
Another way of looking at the mask issue is in reference to a recent flu vaccine efficacy estimate of 46%.
If 54% of HCWs who were vaccinated are not protected, why aren't vaccinated HCWs wearing masks too?
But of course there are no studies showing the masks prevent nosocomial spread. They are simply a punitive measure to enforce vaccinations of uncertain benefit and risk.
I will try and replace the broken link this weekend. The Zimbabwe paper should be accessible. Sorry.
