If you are vaccinated you can take off your mask. Why now?
The reason why CDC is allowing the vaccinated to stop wearing masks indoors, I’d guess, is based on several things: 1. To give people an incentive to be vaccinated–getting those vaccines into arms seems to be a huge priority for some reason, as cases and deaths are falling off a cliff and therefore the benefit…

From the BBC: US and UK insist UN chemicals report ‘blames Syria’ The US, UK and France say a UN report confirming a chemical weapons attack in Damascus has vindicated their stance that Syria was to blame. Protecting yourself from Covid-19/ Nass’ recommendations
The new coronavirus spreads readily, like flu or cold viruses, but is much more likely to affect family members of someone already infected than others. We Americans are not very good at protecting ourselves from cold and flu viruses. Maybe we can learn some strategies that will help us avoid Covid-19, as well as helping…
Requiring flu shots for preschoolers shot down in NYC/ NY Times
The NY Times had a comprehensive article about NYC’s preschool flu shot mandate last January 2015. I blogged about the issue here; and now, in December, a judge has thrown out the mandate. Meryl, do you have any sense of what the percentage is (% visits for ILI) that the health departments declare is flu season? Some of us are tired of the charade of wearing masks at work.
The links in the sidebar don't work (e.g. to your paper on anthrax in Zimbabwe)
According to CDC's FluView, the %ili last week was under 3%–and flu was only widespread in NJ, VT and NV.
But according to state epidemiologist opinions (characterized by the final graphic on the page) the flu remained widespread almost everywhere last week.
Another way of looking at the mask issue is in reference to a recent flu vaccine efficacy estimate of 46%.
If 54% of HCWs who were vaccinated are not protected, why aren't vaccinated HCWs wearing masks too?
But of course there are no studies showing the masks prevent nosocomial spread. They are simply a punitive measure to enforce vaccinations of uncertain benefit and risk.
I will try and replace the broken link this weekend. The Zimbabwe paper should be accessible. Sorry.
